Matti Gao (高宏伟) is a London-based Chinese painter. Born in Harbin in 1989, he graduated from the High School Affiliated to the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, and received his BA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). He is currently pursuing an MA in Theology and Art at King's College London in collaboration with the National Gallery, London, where his research centres on kenosis, the theological act of self-emptying, and how this surrender of will and ego may be embodied in painterly language and the physical process of making.
His practice involves painting directly at social gatherings, seeking to capture the essential presence of his subjects. Recent solo exhibitions include Voyaging. Homecoming. (London, 2024), My Art World Friends (K11 Musea, Hong Kong, 2025), and The Horizon Holds (London, 2026).
高宏伟（Matti Gao）是一位现居伦敦的中国画家。1989年出生于哈尔滨，毕业于中央美术学院附中，后获中央美术学院（CAFA）学士学位。现于伦敦国王学院（King’s College London）与英国国家美术馆（National Gallery, London）合作的 Theology and Art 硕士项目就读，其研究主要围绕“kenosis（自我空无）”这一神学概念展开，探讨艺术家如何通过放下意志与自我，将这种自我让渡的状态体现于绘画语言与绘画行为本身之中。
他的创作实践常发生于真实的社交场域之中，通过现场绘画去捕捉人物最本质的存在状态与精神气息。其近期个展包括 Voyaging. Homecoming.（伦敦，2024）、My Art World Friends（香港 K11 Musea，2025）以及 The Horizon Holds（伦敦，2026）。
