2016

In 2016, I travelled with a few artist friends—Chen Zuo, Fang Xianchen, Qiushi Yu—and a collector friend, Jun Yao, to a small island in Thailand. We painted, drew, and shared fellowship; it was a beautiful week. During this time, I created a series of individual and group portraits, setting them against the backdrop of turquoise waters.

I was also drawn to the very idea of “holiday”—a period when people intentionally devote themselves to doing “nothing,” or to simple, even seemingly mundane activities and sports, in order to restore body and mind worn down by fast-paced urban life.

Following this trip, we held a group exhibition in Beijing’s 798 Art District.
